Current temperature and water temperature in Cancun (Mexico)
Mexico – a land of contrasts and great historic backgrounds. Where you can see capped volcanoes and endless beaches, rain-forest and deserts, the prehispanic civilizations that possessed pyramids and temples, where somehow, still remain some unexplored lands.
Maximum temperatures of 20-30 °C (68-86 °F), 10 hours of sunshine, rain season from June to September, tropical storms and hurricanes await us from August to October in the Caribbean, depending on where you are.
Temperatures
Visiting the south of Mexico has the advantage, of pleasant temperatures all year around. With 20 °C (68°F) to 30°C (86°F) on average in the Yucatan peninsula. Especially in Cancun and the surrounding area, throughout 300 days the sun is shining! Blowing on the beaches with such a pleasant wind, throughout the beautiful turquoise of the seawater that you get inspired to hang out at the beach and take a swim.
In July and August it can happen that the thermometer rises above 30 degrees C (86 °F). It is one of the most warm seasons. During the winter time the temperatures can get around the 25 °C (77 °F) during the day and the coldest nights can show even fall to around 10 to 15 °C (50-59°F) with interesting or unusual cold blowing winds coming from the Atlantic .
Storms
Cancun is known for the clear air, blue sky, turquoise seawater, colorful reefs and white powder sand. But if the in Atlantic oceans cold winds mixes with the Caribbean, a hurrican can evolve. If this comes close, the sky darkens and shows its other side, which can also be a great spectacle.
In Cancun hurricanes are very unlikely, but it always remains a risk during August to October, so it is better to be a little bit prepared. However it only happened twice in the last 30 years.
Usually the storms stay over the water and migrate north and finally dissolve. In addition, early warning systems and evacuation plans exist and are so well planned that no tourists come to harm here.
Water Temperature
The water temperatures in Cancun are so nice that you can swim all year round in the sea at 25 to 29 °C (77-84.2°F), and the sea in the winter months can also be fresh.
But in close proximity to the beach at low water depth the sea heats up quickly and at lunchtime can be used for water sport activities.
